Striped Peplum Sweater

I have a tendency to be attracted to striped tops and dresses and it's a pretty serious habit. Every time I have a choice I just can't shy away from my favorite classic pattern. I have to be careful with stripes in a sweater since sometimes it can give the illusion of being slightly wider in a looser, more boyish fitting sweater and doesn't suit my type, but this fitted peplum sweater from Banana Republic is so right in so many ways.

Military Blazer

I really love the look of a military blazer for fall. Throwing it over a button-down or striped tee is an easy way to complete a composed fall look. I think the masculine quality of the blazer looks great paired with a pair of skinny jeans and either flats or equestrian knee-high boots.

Happy Halloween to you all! I hope you have an amazing day planned. Our Halloweens have been fantastic since moving to Boston. Our ornately decorated neighborhood shuts down all streets to cars and kids within our neighborhood, and those who have traveled to enjoy our special Halloween experience, go door to door while enjoying a pretty amazing block party. Everyone really goes all out to ensure the kids have a memorable trick-or-treating experience. Neighbors even put out wine and spiked cider for the adults.

A Visit to the Pumpkin Patch

A couple of Sundays ago, before I had to head in to work, we made our annual visit to historic Allandale Farm to pick our pumpkins for the season. We love Allandale Farm since it's very close to our home and we can always count on an amazing pumpkin selection. We also always scoop up some of their incredible farm fresh fare from the farmstand. It's a day I look forward to every year.

Embroidered Knit Cardigan

Boston is starting to realize it's fall and I've been able to wear some of my favorite cozy knits that I've been waiting so impatiently to take out of storage. I love putting on layers on a cool morning because I feel as though the brisk air helps energize my day. Since there is still a pretty decent temperature disparity as it still warms up in the afternoon (which I'm enjoying while I can), I tend to rely on easy throw-on cardigans to keep me cozy on our morning walks or when I'm on my way to work.

Fall Picnic in the Garden

Last weekend, after some travel plans fell through, Brian, Bennett and I enjoyed a wonderful staycation in Boston and that Sunday we headed to Boston Public Garden for a fall picnic.

Apple Picking in Stow

A few Sundays ago my little family and I took the short drive to Stow, Massachusetts to pick some apples at Honey Pot Hill Orchards. Apple picking has become one of my favorite fall family traditions since moving to New England, and it is a day I look forward to every year. This year we hit the harvest just right and brought home an enormous variety of delicious apples. I've been using the apples in a number of dinner and pastry recipes, which I can't wait to share with you guys!

Sunflower Fields

Last Sunday we took a drive up to Newbury, Massachusetts to visit the Sunflower Fields at Colby Farm. When we approached the fields they almost didn't look real. The vibrant golden color was incredibly mesmerizing and neither Brian nor I had ever seen anything like it. I was so excited to photograph Bennett standing between the giant flowers, all he wanted to do was run through the fields and posing for me was the last thing on his mind.

Peach Button-Down

It amazes me how much variability there is to the coastal Massachusetts landscape. From dune dominating sandy beaches to abrasive rocky coastline, I love how unpredictable and surprising it can be. One of my favorite places to visit is Ipswich, a quaint town on the North Shore. I love the beautiful scene of the marshland since it almost reminds me of the marshes back home in Savannah.

Fall Transition

Brian's office held their annual summer bash in Hingham, MA and when Bennett and I went to pick him up so he didn't have to take the ferry home, it turned into joining the festivities ourselves. One of his law partners was even nice enough to take us on his boat for a tour of Cohasset, MA, the most charming seaside town.

Handcrafted Italian Eyewear

One occupational perk I have as an optometrist is being able to learn about independent and up-and-coming eyewear lines. I love having the opportunity to learn the inspiration and exactly what goes into making these accessories that not only complete an outfit but also provide us vision correction and protection from harmful UV light. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a practice that chooses to carry eyewear that is handmade by independent designers. There is so much expertise and artistic talent that goes into the initial vision, design and crafting of these glasses. Recently, I was introduced to one of the most beautiful lines of eyewear I have ever seen called Mondelliani, truly exquisite collections of eye and sun wear all handcrafted in Italy.

Fall is by far my favorite season when it comes to wardrobe and style. Being able to live in an area that experiences a true fall was definitely one of our motivators for moving up to New England and I have to say, it is as wonderful and beautiful as I expected and more. In a few weeks I will be bringing bags I reserve for fall and winter up from the basement and saying "See you next year" to my straw and brightly colored printed bags. To toast my upcoming favorite season, I rounded up some beautiful bags that would look great with your fall plaid and equestrian boots.

I have adored the sophisticated, clean shape of this Kate Spade satchel for quite some time. I'm boring and prefer it in black but it also comes in beautiful red and plum colors. I also love this classic Madewell tote. It's simple and the crossbody strap makes it perfect for gallivanting around Boston. This Tory Burch wallet on a chain is great for date night or cocktails with friends. I love the "dust storm" color I showed you but it's also available in black and pink! I also have a huge bag crush on this Tory Burch leather tote! It is so chic and available in four other colors! This Marc Jacobs nylon saddle bag is such a great casual day bag! I like the idea of the durable nylon but the gold hardware gives it some sophistication! I own this Longchamp bag and it is truly my everyday bag. It's perfect for work since it easily fits my laptop and I'm convinced it's indestructible! This Allsaints leather tote is another minimalistic beauty. It is super spacious and the "light slate blue" color is a gorgeous neutral. This quilted leather Rebecca Minkoff quickly rose to new favorite status. The quilted texture is so elegant and I love the gold hardware! Finally, this patent croc embossed clutch from J.McLaughlin is stunning and perfect for a night out!

Black Pleated Skirt

The thing I love most about living in Brookline, aside from all the amazing restaurants and neighbors' friendly faces, are the beautiful brownstones lining Beacon Street. I love how the beautiful brick buildings maintain historical integrity to the area and the lush greenery in the summertime gives the entire neighborhood almost a garden quality.

Ruffle Trim Shift Dress

A family morning walk around Chestnut Hill in my new favorite ruffle trim shift dress!

One of my favorite things about living in Boston is the proximity you have to surrounding beautiful northeastern towns. Brian, Bennett and I have made it a habit of driving out to North Shore or South Shore towns on a weekend afternoon, exploring the area, then finding a local spot to enjoy dinner. This past weekend we actually stayed local (mainly to an unfortunate stomach bug that I endured Friday-Saturday). We spent the weekend walking around our neighborhood and I was reminded that there is beauty and charm in our own backyard and a fun weekend doesn't always have to involve a new destination being checked off our "must-go" list.

Brian had a work obligation in Newburyport, MA a few Friday mornings ago. Usually he heads back into the city afterwards, especially if the responsibility is in the morning, but this particular Friday he surprised me by planning to take the rest of the day off so Bennett and I could join him for the day in my favorite north shore town.

Striped Flare Skirt on the Charles

Oh Summer- Do you have to end? Admittedly, thoughts of pumpkin spice lattes, equestrian boots and New England foilage have been making their way into my head lately but then there are summer days like these along the Charles that make me just want to absorb this season forever. This particular day boasted 80 degrees with a light breeze and was perfect for sailboat-observing walk along the river.

Stripes on the Harborwalk

One of my favorite places to spend a summer Sunday in Boston is on the Harborwalk. Brian, Bennett and I often park at Lewis or Rowes Wharf and spend an hour or so walking the winding path along the Boston Harbor. Bennett seems to really love watching the boats. They always seem to calm him no matter his mood that day.

Last Saturday I was fortunate enough to be off work by noon so we could take Bennett down to Boston's Children's Museum. The museum has the sweetest exhibit called PlaySpace which is an area designated for 0-3 year olds filled with toys and activities designed to encourage investigation and creativity. Bennett absolutely loves being in this exhibit so I try to take him to the museum as often as possible. And then there's always fun for Brian and I afterwards as we enjoy dinner at a Seaport restaurant.
