Smoky Fried Chicken and Apple Cider Waffles

Boston Life & Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, is sharing her South Meets New England recipe for Smoky Fried Chicken and Apple Cider Waffles. The sweetness of the apple cider waffles and chili smokiness from the chicken and syrup will keep you craving more!

In the theme of this blog, as well as with a lot of my recipes, I am constantly looking for ways to mix styles and traditions from my previous way of life in the south with new learned concepts and ideas from my present life in New England. This recipe for Smoky Fried Chicken and Apple Cider Waffles does just that. Chicken and Waffles is a classic southern dish, but this version incorporates one of my favorite New England staples, apple cider. I also added some heat and smoke to the recipe using a merquén infused maple syrup from my favorite New England maple syrup company, Runamok Maple.

Nutritious Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Boston Life & Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, shares one of her favorite fall smoothie recipes, a nutritious pumpkin pie smoothie!

Bennett and I love enjoying our morning smoothies together on the days I'm off work. I like to have fun experimenting with new recipes and my sweet little boy always seems to love them and slurps down all of the different combinations I create for him. He is such a picky eater right now and it is a great and easy way to sneak in some nutritious fruits and veggies into his diet. My favorite go-to morning smoothie this fall has been this "Pumpkin Pie Smoothie". I put in in quotes because it definitely doesn't taste as decadent as a real pumpkin pie but the addition of the fall spices and sweet puréed pumpkin makes it a tasty lighter morning treat.

Cinnamon Sugar Spiced Pumpkin Bread

Boston Life & Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, is sharing her recipe for delicious cinnamon sugar spiced pumpkin bread.

Last week my mom came up for a visit and to watch Bennett when I went to work one day. She brought some of the most amazing pumpkin bread from a local Jacksonville, Florida bakery. It was such a hit with me, Brian and Bennett that I set out to recreate it the best I could. And after a good number of trial and error loaves, I have successfully nailed down my dream pumpkin bread recipe.

Apple Cranberry Crisp

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, is sharing a recipe for a delicious apple cranberry crisp! It is the ultimate fall and Holiday dessert!.

The fall season is so fun and inspiring for making delicious desserts. There is so much I've been wanting to do with our haul after we went apple picking a few weeks ago, but first I had to make one of my favorite desserts of all time, an apple crisp. And I made this version truly special by adding cranberries.

Apple Cranberry Sparkling Punch

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, is sharing a simple and easy-to-make fall-inspired cocktail!

Fall is my favorite season for cocktails there are so many amazing autumnal flavors you can integrate in some delicious recipes. I love this Apple Cranberry Sparkling Punch in particular since it's super simple to whip up and perfect if you're hosting a gathering that you had little time to prepare for. It will still absolutely impress your guests!

Linguine with Clams and Pancetta

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia shares her favorite Linguine with Clams recipe that has the added surprise of pancetta.

Fall is the season for comfort food! And I know traditionally for many that means slow cooker chili or various casseroles, but for me, there is nothing more comforting than a serving (or two) of linguine with clam sauce.

Rosé Elderflower Cocktail

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia is sharing a delicious and refreshing cocktail combining rosé with the deep floral notes of elderflower liqueur and fresh citrus of grapefruit. This is one you don't want to miss!

You shouldn't say farewell to summer without mixing up one more rosé cocktail. This drink is incredibly simple to make (containing only three ingredients) and is perfect for your Labor Day Weekend festivities.

Galaxy Cookies

Cute cookie decor to celebrate the solar eclipse on August 21st!

I have to say, the Solar Eclipse taking place this Monday, August 21st has had me pretty space-geeked-out for months! I'm truly so thrilled to be able to watch such a rare event and I think something this cosmically amazing should be celebrated (and in my mind, that means with sweets)! So, I took to Pinterest for some inspiration and stumbled on the coolest "galaxy cookies".

Peach Mint Margarita

August is National Peach Month and there is no better way to enjoy this fruit than in this delicious margarita!

August is National Peach Month and, being from Savannah, GA, of course I had to pay tribute to this observation! I love peaches in the summertime whether in baked goods, or better yet, roasted with a dallop of marscapone cream (A-MAZING). Another way I like to enjoy a tasty peach is in a cocktail. And this Peach Mint Margarita is no exception!

Rosé Lollipops

A recipe for the most adorable homemade rosé lollipops!

This week I had a desire to try and make something I have never made before. I started to peruse Pinterest for inspiration when I found out this past Thursday was National Lollipop Day. So I thought, "Perfect, I've never attempted to make candy before!" Candy making has always intimidated me with its sugar boiling and candy thermometers, but I finally conquered the candy making unknown and creating these homemade lollipops turned out to be super easy!

Strawberry Lime Frosé

Frosé! The trendiest cocktail of the summer! This recipe combines fruity rosé, sweet strawberry and zesty lime in the most refreshing and beautiful summer drink!

Frosé- the adult slushy that pretty much became the "it-drink" of the summer. Not like it was hard to get there with its delightful icy texture and adorable pink hue. This trendy frozen cocktail makes me so incredibly happy because I love rosé and what better way to enjoy my favorite summer wine than frozen and combined with harmonizing fresh fruit flavors.

Skinny Strawberry Sundae

A skinny strawberry sundae makes the ultimate summer dessert

Today is National Strawberry Sundae Day (yes it's a thing), and I'm a big supporter of this day on which we get to celebrate one of my all-time favorite treats! Formerly I would enjoy this classic dessert the traditional way with vanilla ice-cream covered with tart, fruity strawberry sauce and some whip cream on top. But now, always trying to be conscientious about what I eat (and after an inescapable, indulgent Fourth of July weekend), I wanted to share another, lower calorie way my family and I like to enjoy this delicious dessert.

The Revolution- A Watermelon, Coconut and Lime Cocktail

Brian and I always look forward to the Fourth of July. Aside from the fortunate tradition we have of spending some time in The Hamptons with my family, it is also special to us because it is our one true annual vacation. We do go on overnights here and there throughout the year, but over the Fourth of July Holiday we usually spend close to a week at the beach. And true to form, one of the first things we do to commemorate our trip is shake up a summer cocktail.

Fourth of July Cheese Board

Fourth of July Cheese Platter

The Fourth of July Holiday is a time for relaxation and celebration with friends and family. It's a time for picnics, bonfires and summer cocktails. Whether you're hosting the party or contributing an appetizer as a guest, a Fourth of July Cheese Board is as much of a crowd pleaser as it is pretty. There's always a little something for everyone!

Grapefruit Thyme Negroni

Grapefruit Thyme Negroni The Northern Magnolia

Although Brian's tenure as a father has not been incredibly long, I have made a little tradition out of mixing him up a special Father's Day cocktail the last two years. This year I decided to put a little spin on one of his favorite drinks- the Negroni.

Our Favorite Acai Bowl

Acai Bowl The Northern Magnolia

An acai bowl is one of my and Bennett's favorite treats on a hot day. Last summer we would frequent a local juice bar that makes AMAZING acai bowls before hitting the pool. It's a little tradition I've always treasured because he always made it clear how much he loved the taste of the fruit purée, and I knew I was giving him something really good for him. Acai berries are packed with powerful antioxidants and have an extensive list of health benefits! So this year I decided to start making more acai bowls at home, and they quickly reestablished themselves as Bennett's favorite breakfast.

Skinny Caesar Dressing

There was so much I loved about our Memorial Day Weekend in Maine, but my favorite part of the trip had to be indulging in all the amazing local food. Our trip wouldn't have been complete without lobster rolls, slices of Maine wild blueberry pie and a few New England IPAs.

Ironically, however, another thing I love about vacations in general are the post-vacation detoxes. For whatever reason the clarity I receive and happiness I absorb from so much family time spent away from work and my laptop gives me a reboot and motivates me to stick to a healthier diet, schedule in some exercise and find ways to improve my overall well-being.

A Caesar salad is one of my favorite dinner sides, and I would honestly eat it every night if my family wouldn't get bored or think I'd gone crazy. I love it for its tangy, peppery rich flavor and the nuttiness of the parmesan cheese. Since my affinity for Caesar salad means we consume a good amount of Caesar salad in our house, I have been determined to find a way to make the traditional egg / mayonnaise-based dressing a little healthier, and this is my favorite combination I have tried so far.

Hibiscus Margarita

Hibiscus Margarita The Northern Magnolia

Memorial Day Weekend is finally here, and the summer season is right there on the horizon! I'm so grateful and excited for the long weekend and being able to spend it in Maine. I have dreamed about going to Maine for quite some time. There's something that has always allured me about being as far north in the United States as you can possibly go (in the northeast that is), and I've always thought about heading north on I-95 and driving until its end. Although we won't be going quite that far north (we're going to be in the Ogunquit / York area), I'm very much looking forward to spending a few peaceful days by the sea. But of course I couldn't send you guys off on your Memorial Day Holiday without a cocktail.

Edible Flowers

Edible flowers can very simply and easily add a beautiful element to your entertaining! Some of my favorite edible flower varieties to use are orchids, pansies, hibiscus and lavender, but there are many other options out there to give you the color and aesthetic you're aspiring to with your dish. Edible flowers start to show up in farm stands, Whole Foods and other specialty grocery stores in the summer time, so I wanted to show you some of my favorite ways to utilize edible flowers whether I'm entertaining or just want to pretty something up for myself. And, please, always make sure you're buying culinary flowers or flowers farmed to be edible. You don't want to ingest pesticides or other toxic chemicals.

Lillet Rosé Sparkler

I wanted to share this cocktail with you in time for Mother's Day since this sparkling libation would make such a beautiful addition to a Mother's Day Brunch. Because all those mama's out there are worth something more special than just a traditional mimosa (am I right?). This cocktail is sweet, citrusy and sparkly, or basically everything that describes amazing boozy brunch drink. What makes it really great is its shining star, Lillet.
