I can say with all certainty my hair is not my best feature. It's naturally fine and has just the right annoying amount of wave that becomes almost curly towards the front requiring a good amount of effort to either straighten it out or embrace its waviness. And to add insult to hair injury, hormone fluctuations from my pregnancy with Bennett has caused my fine, damage-prone hair to become dryer, making it appear even more abused. In an effort to prevent worsening damage I stopped using a hair straightener and a curling iron, but due to my wacky combination of hair textures and my wonderful genetic gift of early graying, I refuse to forfeit my blowdryer or professional hair coloring.

KÉRASTASE Fusio-Dose Treatment at HC Studio
My hair and I have been enduring an epic, never-ending battle for control for years. I have always been prone to dry hair even with use of the deepest most buttery leave-in conditioners and home hair treatments. When I moved up north, although I now love having a Winter and all the snow fun and beauty that comes along with it, the dryness of my hair has gotten considerably worse in this colder climate during these colder months.
What's In Store For 2017
My emotions on New Year's Day can traditionally be described as tempestuous. Christmas disappears from my house that day, and I'm left feeling sorry the Holidays are over. And this year, like most, as I was putting bulbs back into their boxes, I was stunned by how quickly the Holiday Season came and went. At the same time, New Year's Day is also a day of exhilaration and anticipation. It signifies a new start, a new stage to command, a new time to create and make make new memories. Although I never set true resolutions, I do always start a new year determined to be my best self and work towards the dynamic goals I have set for my life.
The biggest development in 2016 was the launch of this blog. In wandering into this form of communication I have wandered into an entire online marketing industry. This project has been so fulfilling to me and has allowed me to learn and develop a passion for branding, web design and photography. I have regained an amazing balance in my life of providing eye care as well as having a way to apply creativity, and I honestly thought that balance was gone for good when I started devoting 99% of my time to optometry. Now I am starting to see my hobby turn into a small side business, and I could not be more excited!
So what's on the set list for 2017? I plan on continuing to grow and configure new customizations for The NorthernMagnolia.com. This year you will start seeing some of my colleagues in the medical community begin to contribute to the site. My intention and hope is to continue to build a community where you can come and find personal style and lifestyle contributions as well as find a collective of contributions from female medical professionals to provide you insights and recommendations.
I also can't believe I get to share another item on the docket for 2017. My good friend/business partner and I are planning to launch a company that we have been imagining since 2014. We are taking our knowledge of ocular health and applying it to developing products we know will have a positive effect on our patients and anyone who wants to use cosmetics that contain non-irritating, pro-health ingredients. We're in the research and development stage and hope to begin bringing our first product to market this year.
I also want to take this time to thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you all the happiest of Happy New Years! Your following means more to me than you know. Most of you started supporting me at the launch of the site when it was pretty sloppy and way below any professional standard. I am so grateful you have continued to return and can't wait to see where this next year will take us! Cheers to a Happy and Healthy 2017!

Nicole
Magnolia Bouquet
I'm really excited about all the finds on this week's Bouquet (and in case you missed it here is last week's)!! I know I've mentioned this before, but Fall is definitely my favorite season to shop for clothes. I never get tired of perusing all the plaid button-downs, sweaters and boots! I hope you guys like these finds as much as I do!
And I must say I haven't been this stoked about Halloween in a while! I'm so excited for later this evening when we get to take Bennett trick-or-treating. Although I wish I would have done a better job on his costume, I know he's going to look adorable (so there will definitely be some pictures coming your way :) ).

100 Posts
Today marks a pretty big milestone for this little blog. This is The Northern Magnolia's 100th post, which truly astonishes me because it seems like it was just days ago that I wrote my first post on Bennett's Birth Story. Today I just wanted to post a huge thank you to you guys. Thank you so much for continuing to follow along. Thank you for your patience as the blog has gone through changes, both cosmetic and in the type of content. And thank you so much for your kind words and continued support. It means so much to me when I see my number of site visitors for the day and know you guys are checking in from time to time!
A Review of Arbonne's Intensive Renewal Serum
A few months ago I began to invest in Arbonne skin care products after hearing from a number of friends how devoted they are to the line..
My Favorite Face Mask
After having Bennett I quickly wanted to reestablish my skincare routine since I had badly neglected it during the last trimester of my pregnancy. My evening shower and skincare practice has become my oasis at the end of a long day of having my hair pulled and dodging spit-up. It is my time, and I have never appreciated a hot shower, Ludovico Einaudi radio and a step-by-step skincare regimen more...
