Fall Home Finds I Love

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, rounds up her favorite home decor finds for fall.

Fall is my absolute favorite time to decorate my home. I love to mark the end of summer with adding fall touches to my house. I find it one of the most inexpensive time of year to do so since most of my decorating involves bringing the outdoors in with apples, pine cones and pumpkins. Below I've listed some fall home decor finds I love and next week I plan on posting how I am turning my own home into an autumn wonderland. I hope you guys enjoy!

What I Haven't Learned In Three Years Of Marriage

Boston Life and Style Blogger, The Northern Magnolia, discusses the first three years of marriage.

Brian and I celebrated three years of marriage yesterday. It's hard to believe it was over a thousand days ago that we vowed to be joined to each other forever in front of friends and family in downtown Savannah, Georgia. At risk of unoriginality, I truly don't remember much about our wedding day. When I try to think back to specific moments my thoughts are a blur. I can't recall what I was feeling walking down the aisle in front of the eyes that only filled a quarter of the large cathedral, the moment of our first kiss as husband and wife or the taste of our wedding cake. I can only conclude this amnesia was my mind and body's defense mechanism in order to prevent myself from having a wedding day panic attack.

Easter Sunday Tablescape

Easter Sunday Table Tablescape

We will be celebrating Easter at our house this year, and I wanted to share the tablescape I have in the works for our Easter Sunday brunch! I do hate to disappoint any bunny décor fanatics out there, but this table setup does not have any bunny rabbits or baby chicks. I just used a mix of fresh and faux florals with an organic, neutral background to create a fun and happy Spring table!

Southwestern Toddler Room

When I told Brian I wanted to redecorate and transition Bennett's room to a toddler room, jet pilots could have seen his eyes roll. After all it felt like we had just furnished and decorated a nursery... twice.  Once when I was pregnant for the short time we lived on Cape Cod and then again when we moved into our home in Boston. But now that Bennett is walking and exploring his surroundings so curiously, I felt that he deserved a space that could provide a peaceful sanctuary for my adventurer to throw up his spurs as well as spark and cultivate creativity.

A Better Day to Day For a Better Year

How I organize my days in order to appropriately balance being an attentive mom, an entrepreneur and an optometrist.

At the beginning of the New Year I always do a sort of audit of my life and figure out if there are ways I can make daily tasks easier and, in turn, myself more efficient and productive. I learned very quickly in motherhood that I have to be much more disciplined when it comes to abiding by a daily routine if I have any hope of taking any time out for myself. This is especially true now with a mischievous crawling / almost walking one year old that my eyes have to remain on at all times. Today, I'm sharing a few tips that have helped me complete my daily tasks more efficiently so everything gets done and I still find some time to pick up that work of fiction, take a bubble bath with some vino, or binge some Netflix in the evening.

What's In Store For 2017

A look back at 2016 and look ahead to 2017.

My emotions on New Year's Day can traditionally be described as tempestuous. Christmas disappears from my house that day, and I'm left feeling sorry the Holidays are over. And this year, like most, as I was putting bulbs back into their boxes, I was stunned by how quickly the Holiday Season came and went.  At the same time, New Year's Day is also a day of exhilaration and anticipation. It signifies a new start, a new stage to command, a new time to create and make make new memories. Although I never set true resolutions, I do always start a new year determined to be my best self and work towards the dynamic goals I have set for my life.

The biggest development in 2016 was the launch of this blog. In wandering into this form of communication I have wandered into an entire online marketing industry. This project has been so fulfilling to me and has allowed me to learn and develop a passion for branding, web design and photography. I have regained an amazing balance in my life of providing eye care as well as having a way to apply creativity, and I honestly thought that balance was gone for good when I started devoting 99% of my time to optometry. Now I am starting to see my hobby turn into a small side business, and I could not be more excited!

So what's on the set list for 2017? I plan on continuing to grow and configure new customizations for The NorthernMagnolia.com. This year you will start seeing some of my colleagues in the medical community begin to contribute to the site. My intention and hope is to continue to build a community where you can come and find personal style and lifestyle contributions as well as find a collective of contributions from female medical professionals to provide you insights and recommendations.

I also can't believe I get to share another item on the docket for 2017. My good friend/business partner and I are planning to launch a company that we have been imagining since 2014. We are taking our knowledge of ocular health and applying it to developing products we know will have a positive effect on our patients and anyone who wants to use cosmetics that contain non-irritating, pro-health ingredients. We're in the research and development stage and hope to begin bringing our first product to market this year.

I also want to take this time to thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you all the happiest of Happy New Years! Your following means more to me than you know. Most of you started supporting me at the launch of the site when it was pretty sloppy and way below any professional standard. I am so grateful you have continued to return and can't wait to see where this next year will take us! Cheers to a Happy and Healthy 2017!

XX,

Nicole

Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving Table Decor
Thanksgiving is a favorite Holiday in our household. We savor the day of cooking and eating great, indulgent food in the comfort of our home since our Christmases are usually crazy as we travel to visit extended family. This particular Thanksgiving is really special because it officially marks one year since my labor was induced and we welcomed Bennett to the family. I can remember every detail of last Thanksgiving so vividly, and it is certainly a weekend that I will never forget.

Fall Touches For Your Home on a Budget

Fall Touches to Your Home on a Budget

Fall is my favorite time of year, and I love cozying up in my home with autumnal decor in order to embrace the aesthetic of the season.  Since my work schedule changed when Bennett was born I have to respect a new budget when it comes to styling my home, especially with rotating seasonal pieces.  Today I'm sharing some easy, inexpensive ways to add some festive Fall vibes to your home.

Magnolia Bouquet

The best of the web is rounded up on this must-have list.

I was so happy to be able to be in New York last weekend and spend an amazing weekend with my family.  We were celebrating my niece's Baptism, and the ceremony was just so beautiful!  It fills my heart when Bennett gets to play with his cousins.  He has learned to give his stuffed animals kisses, and now when he sits next to his little cousin, Stella, he leans towards her and tries to give her kisses.  Unfortunately, he usually ends up just head butting her, but the sweet girl never seems to mind.  It is such a precious thing to witness!

I hope you enjoy this week's round-up! I usually post these collages on Tuesdays, but the trip to NY and effects of Hurricane Matthew changed this week's post schedule a bit.   Fall is absolutely inspiring when it comes to clothes, accessories and home decor.  (You can also see my last Fall Bouquet HERE).  I hope you all have a great week!   You can shop this week's Bouquet below!

Wool Flannel Blazer // Floppy Wool Hat // Floral Print // Throw Pillows // Black Leather Loafers // Side Table // Checkered Scarf // Classic White Button-Down // Chesapeake Bay Candle // Charm Necklace
